Cfp “Media and the Environment” (MedieKultur)

Call for Papers for a special issue on “Media and the Environment” to be published in Mediekultur in 2025.

This call for papers follows the bi-annual conference of SMiD (the association of media and communication researchers in Denmark) on the topic of “Media (and) sustainability: Crises, paradoxes and potentials” (see seminar call here).

Based on the papers presented at the conference as well as other related work, we wish to showcase contemporary work on the broad theme of media and the environment. We consequently ask conference participants and others interested — and we especially encourage junior scholars — to submit an abstract outlining:

  • Topic and objects of study
  • How the study is positioned within the broader field of environmental communication and media studies
  • The main theoretical underpinnings
  • The applied methods and their implications
  • Results or preliminary findings

Deadline: Friday, June 14. Length: 1000-1500 words excl. references

Based on the focus and quality of the abstracts, authors will be invited to submit full papers with a deadline set for Dec 1, 2024. The special issue is expected to be published in autumn 2025.

Abstracts should be sent to Henrik Bødker (hb@cc.au.dk), either as a PDF or Word file.

The special issue is co-edited by Mikkel Fugl Eskjær, Aalborg University, Denmark, Sandra Simonsen, Aarhus University, Denmark, Henrik Bødker, Aarhus University, Denmark og Martina Skrubbeltrang Mahnke, Roskilde University, Denmark.

MedieKultur is a double-blind peer-reviewed journal published by SMiD. The aim of MedieKultur is to contribute to critical reflection and the development of theories and methods within media and communication research. Requirements for submissions can be seen here.
